Not absolutely exactly in a good mood, somewhat

LRI inspection passed with flying colors, we got 3 days off for our weekends burned but nothing else, its back to slack time, and i'm now clearing 2 days of my off to create a long weekend....so why am i not happy?

Cos my fucking useless piece-of-shit of a father had to go and spoil my mood with a $530.71 holy m**th-f**cking-thats-humongus power utilities bill. Thats been unpaid for 4 OMG WTF WERE THEY DOING months.

So here i was happily surveying my newly bought Samuel and Kelvin© shirt and jeans when suddenly my mother asks whether she can borrow some money. So i say yea sure why not, cos ya noe i'm not a entirely bad person (at least i pretty much think i'm not), plus these here folks did a pretty good job of raising me up most of my life. I ask them how much they want to borrow, and her reply is that she wants to take a look at my bank book first. So i say ok, you gotta find it cos it must be here somewhere, and i'm playing fire emblem so leave me alone for a few hours kae... Oh stupid stupid shawn that shld have set you off immediately...

barely 30 mins later (and i'm not kidding bout this) this nice guy stands at our door(cos its not closed see) with a clipboard in hand. So here i am thinking that he's one of those dengue checking ppl so i ask him nicely wat he wants. Kudos to the guy for coming straight to the point:"I'm here to cut your power supply"

I stand there dumbfounded while my mum rushes forward to try and psycho this guy. And i keep thinking theres no way this is hapening you noe....this happens to single parents with 4 kids living in 2 room flats who bathe at public toilets, not to a family with 2 working adults, 2 working teennagers and one brawling adolescent who don't draw any money from their parents and in fact pay for their bills themselves. For eg i pay my father's and i phone bill, my transport cost my clothes and my groceries while my sister does the same. Sometimes i even chip in to pay the cable bill. And to put things into perspective that home utilities bill comes from them cooking all their food stuff at home...so bascially its all my parents expenses.

After the electricity guy leaves ( he demands full restitution within 2 days) my sister and i sit down to discuss options...and then we proceed to turn the place upside down to find what else they are hiding from us. and heres what i find another 500 plus in misc red bills. Now we are really, really pissed. We just proceed to fuck our poor mother upside down, who still keeps pleading us to give her money so that she can settle the amount and prevent our electricity from being cut. thank god my sister still had some savings left so she chips in a majority stake while i add in a fewhundred more... in the end we manage to pay for 650 worth of red bills...

Since then i've been combing thru our house and sorting thru the stuff and the more i find the more pissed i get. From the looks of it, since i last blew up with them about three months ago over unpaid bills, the situation hasn't improved one bit...they only paid like one or two months and let the rest snowball till this stage....I mean like wtf are they working for? They only need to support themselves and one kid is that so hard? i look at the bills and i discover it looks like they can't even cover their operating expenses! then why for god's sake are they even working from 7-2 am evrynight? i mean are they f**cking blind or what? or just plaind dumb stupid? jesus christ i feel like firebombing the stupid shop to ashes...

to be Continued ...

The Mystery of Michelangelo's 'Creation of Adam'

While i was reading this book called "Secrets of Angels and Demons" , i came across this passage in the book which highlighted similarities in the painting of the Creation of Adam and the cross section of the human brain. Turns out that Michelangelo frequently dissected human bodies and was quite familiar with the anatomy of the human brain.

http://luciano.stanford.edu/~fred/trip/Rome/s1.jpg

The rest of the book highlights the conflicts between religion and science (predominantly the Catholic Church, the largest organised religion). However it also talks about how Dan Brown bullshits his way through the technology in the book (and some of it is really quite perposterous), and how little of what he says is really true...

eh ok first things first I'm a corporal now! I only got wind of it a month after they promoted me so they back-paid me 50 bucks. Now with 420 i get to save at least a bit each month....

second of all i'm thinkin of picking up a class 2b license and a bike cos i'm tired of waiting for buses and trains and personally i feel that public transport is a big waste of time. it becomes really apparent when you take 2 hours to reach camp. My company is moving to a new unit in a few months time but our workplace will remain the same, its all admin. But the new unit's policy is for all its technicians to stay out, which is actually really good, but its currently not really uh feasible.

i've started accumulating a buffer in my bank account in anticipation of all the money that its gonna take. In other words no more movies, no more 15 dollar lunches and dinners, no more staying out on weekends, no more mp3 players, no ipod, imac mini, psp gba or nintendo ds. I'm looking at a Vespa but i've been told that spare parts are expensive and that the engine is located on one side so its a bit unbalanced when riding. So in the end i may just settle for a run of the mill sports bike...

I'm still quite busy but it has kinda settled into a routine for me, so much so that when i go back for the weekends i end up planning for the weekdays instead and i don't really know what to do on weekends. I think i pretty much succeeded in severing contact with everyone else other than my army buddies and the inner circle, although not intentionally, so in essence well, its official, my life revolves around the army. In fact i brought my xbox to camp for a while, but it seems to be a grey area and nobody knows whether i'm allowed to bring it in....and it just so happened that a week after MSD came down, and they started conducting hundred percent bag checks at the entrance so i brought it back home to give me peace of mind...

Actually I kinda like it there. there's only one computer there and its mainly used by people who surf porn, chat up secondary school girls ( we are talking 25 year old guys here) and who fish around sites like Friendster and WhoLivesNearYou so i dun really get to use it unless i stay up really late, but i find that i get a lot of free time to do other stuff. And it makes me confront this deep dark secret of mine that i refused to acknowledged for the longest time...I'm actually a computer addict. I'm not toking about dropping dead after 50 hours of gaming or anything of that sort, but its sort of undeniable that if i have some free time, i would be found in front of the computer. I can actually spend the whole day surfing till my eyes pop, and once i experienced what can only be described as "eye seizures" after which was scared enuff to stay away for a while, but not long enuff.

So in fact in camp i feel more liberated than i do at home. isn't that like the bizzarest thing? heres a list of things i do in camp that i dun actually remember doing at home:

I go running and go gym.
I read.
I watch TV.
I listen to radio.
I talk to people.
I get 7 hours of sleep.

So i actually kinda enjoy army life. The people here aren't too bad too. Granted some of them are internet perverts but they are all quite nice ppl. The kind of ppl you see everyday and dun feel like punching their faces in. The kind of ppl you bitch about commanders with. Even the hokkien pings aren't half bad. granted they speak in hokkien and i can't understand them, but at least they dun try to eat you. so i guess i've had it at least better than my peers. Hey everyone has f**ked up commanders but with frens like these army's a breeze...

P.S Anyone else notice the sign in on blogspot dissappeared on army computers? i wun update in camp but my frens do....

for example what i did over the last two weeks

11 july monday - battalion block leave
12 and 13 april tuesday and wednesday- carpark attending at chevrons for warrant officers dinner
14 july thursday - guard
15 - maintenance in morning, AHM training in afternoon.

18 july - maintenance
19 july - Company Orderly Specialist (COS). rest of battalion: battalion safety seminar.
20 july - maintenance overtime. night kenna activated for COS again
21 july thursday - battalion photo taking at HQ. ippt in afternoon.
22 july - IMT in morning. AHM in afternoon.

next week forecast

25 26 july - ATP (range)
27 july - maintenance
28 july- vetting at marina. Guard duty in afternoon.
29 july - guard rest in morning. AHM in afternoon.(!)

and i'm considered lucky, cos operators have to do ndp rehersals on sat.
hmm for some reason our CO decided that our whole battalion shld run the 21 km half marathon.

As far as i know most first year soldiers in combat units, won't even go near the 21 km marathon. And we are a service unit.

So every friday i run an avg of 10 km and above at east coast park with my size XL shirt and size XL pants zhao geng-ing everywhere. Its actually kinda fun u noe. and since we are gonna run 21 km i was thinking of joining the 21 km competitive run. for 12 bucks they give you a finishers medal and a cert with your printed time. Now i noe i'm not gonna even go anywhere near the top runners (last year someone won the open category in an hour. make your own calculations) but i feel ok about meeting my battalions competitive run standard, which is 2 1/2 hours. Plus i get to tuang if i go for intensive AHM training (right now i'm only doing my battalions minimum standard of training). Any other takers? My best timing is about 1 hour 2 1/2 minutes for 11km, but i have been shaving off 2 mins every week from my timing.

My 2.4 has improved as a result also. its now 10 mins 25 secs, down from 11 mins 20 from bmt. 40 more secs to go....

Now i noe why my battalion is so f**ked up. As a general rule 60 percent of our time is supposed to be spent on real work while 40 percent on extra activities like pt, talks and saikang(for other companies) and all, but in reality our time table is on the reverse. We do our maintenace work very fast but we spent so much time on saf events that we just end up overworking ourselves.

oh gawd i finally realised thats its been such a long time since i posted....

well i've finally settled into unit life and made myself more comfortable than it deserves to be, and i'm clearing battalion block leave next week so i guess its bout time for me to destress a bit and pursue some interests which i have somewhat neglected for a while....

i was listening to my discman one night and transcibing lyrics (something i indulge in when i'm not reading) when Butch Walkers - Mixtape came on. the last time i remember making a mixtape was way back in early secondary school, so as you can imagine it brought back lots of fond memories. my mixtapes were primarily composed of songs recorded from rick dees top 40 hits and from the acoustic segment on the malaysia channel next to power 98, and also some odds and ends from 933, and i remember tuning in every sunday with one hand on the record button. Speaking of 933, as i listened to them while carrying out servicing, they haven't stopped their habit of playing oldies, which makes them such a good channel to listen to compared to lets say perfect 10... with the death of the casette player such a woefully underappreciated art was lost quite possibly forever....but if you look closely at todays ipods and mp3 players you see soem embodiment of that spirit there. the attraction of the mixtape was that it very powerful tool it reflected the personnal tastes and mood of the person who compiled it, and in some cases when it was properly done it was a far greater sum that its parts because it conveyed a certain kind of feel that was unacheivable on any other medium isn't that whats been happening with all that talk about being able to tell your personality from your ipod?

So aniwae for the block leave i was thinking of transferring some of my old mixtapes to digital format, and mebbe compiling some in digital form, among other projects in different stages of umm...starting. yea yea i know i have this habit of never finishing what i started, and i can't possibly hope for that to change now, but well its sth thats far more meaningful that playing video games you noe? Although of course i'm sure i'll be doing lots of the latter to...

In the meantime you can check out Butch Walker - Mixtapes, the song that started this mess. Its availiable from most mp3 search engines i think, cos its quite popular and i already got several versions of it live and in concert...it tells the story about this guy who makes mixtapes whenever he gets laid and this girl who gave him the best mixtape of all..

Got posted to 3rd transport batallion(?sp), a stay in unit and supposedly the best logistic unit around. Now in army terms that means lots of overtime, and working you to the ground to squeeze out every ounce of productivity they can get from your teeny tiny body. Still waiting for confirmation on thursday, friday is platoon cohesion day and the following monday its off to the new workplace. You really have to admire how fast the army shifts ppl around, even if said ppl have nothing better to do except sit arnd and do saikang while waiting for training to start.

Aniwae after doing a lot of thinking i kinda dun mind staying in afterall. Hey it saves money, and i dun have to waste time on transport. besides i find myself doing nothing nowadays except firing up the ol xbox and wasting time on worms world party (anyone up for a game?). I'm really the worst person to ever deserve to stay out.

But i'll really miss my OETI mates. They are a handful to instructors but they're a really nice bunch of ppl to hang out with. We sleep in locker rooms, we jaywalk all over the place, like to make fun of each other, and just generally beat each other up. As compared to BMT where your constantly under pressure, unduly stressed, tired and f**cked up, OETI is truly heavenly. BMT brought out the worst in ppl esp me, i screamed at ppl, quarelled with my bunk buddy and just flat out ignored the ppl who needed help the most, just because they were irritating. And i truly regret wat i did. Now i have only 2 oeti mates coming with me to 3rd transport :(

Oh and i'd like to thank qiuyu and muifong and laura for buying me cake and swensens ice cream to celebrate my birthday. Very nice of them, especially for something that wasn't preplanned. And i'm still waiting for that "Get Fuzzy" book...

got slapped with 3 extras and 50 dollars fine for losing camp pass. lan lan suck (insert fav appendage here). wil be serving them (medium rare thank you) on sundays. While most ppl are crying over the lost weekend i'm crying over the lost 50 dollars. Not feeling good right now...but nothing that heavy doses of Delta Goodrem can't cure.

lol.

just to let you all know for those who didn't already...i got accepted into NUS FASS and Smu fac of scoial sciences. If only i can find their letters of acceptances. Which i can't. Not yet anyway. And i've been at it for like what 3 hours plus already *update" I found my SMU one!!! Yes i now have a university to go to! I roxxxx....

*double update* it doesn't really say much does it? i could have just gone online and clicked the acceptance box. For what fuck did i spent 3 hours of my blissful off day doing ?!?! now on to the nus letter....

In case your wondering why i'm not updating much well its cos i dun want to bore ppl with details like i how i dismantled the camshaft and changed the fan belt and inspected the oil level of my D6C bulldozer :) which i love btw. Cos its big and fat and makes manly noises. And theres nothing like being in a seat of 3 ton(?) vehicle and just gunning the engine from the start go which makes u feel like a big fuck.

i spent my childhood playing maksak masak with cabbage patch and ghost buster dolls(u know the white fluffy puffy one) and carebears, a byproduct no doubt of a mother who still refers to my undies as "panties". And refers to me as "her' and "she". So now i feel like the little kid in baby blues. reclaiming that small privilege which i lost.

Still since most of the tasks i do are so mundane and so easy most of the time i just listen to ppl tok cok. Abt having sex with multiple partners, abt going fishing on mambo night, abt losing your virginity to an older experienced girl, abt preying on church girls, abt being cheated on by a christian, abt fighting smoking, abt getting into fights stuff which i wouldn't have heard abt otherwise in my uchi. Uchi refers to a persons ingroup, be it school company family friends which one feels a belonging to. I would say i have been relatively sheltered...but years of being exposed to american and japanesese culture have dulled the impact somewhat.

Sometimes ppl say that i'm very "open-minded" . or that i'm not very err herm "innocent". Whatever. They just don't know a thing abt the outside world...umm where was i? oh yeah my uni acceptance. i STILL CAN"T FIND IT!!! grrrr....i feel like whiping somebody.

Drafted 0300 26 April

Its still strikes me as amazing the spread of hallucinations and visions thats haunt you as you lay in bed, your sweat soaked body half spent with exhaustion from fighting the fever that wracks him from head to toe. In those times you call out and voices answer you, voices that ring loud with the clarity of authority seeking to wake you from your drug induced delirium (overdose of panadol perhaps?) But soon those voices disappear, their humming notes of disapproval ringing clear. But others soon follow, hoping to push their luck perhaps? Sweet, sweet voices with the lightest of touches, their wings making pattery sounds as they brush alongside you, hovering and ever circling as they implore you to play with them. There are others too of course, but the memory of their existence fades away as fast as they appear. Did they come with good intentions as well? I remember not , but as i lay listening to them, in those times i truly felt no pain, believing myself free of this cursed earth with my head sitting firmly in the clouds.

what am i to you?

my cockster of a buddy has just gotten a one week mc, which makes twice the number of times he has bailed out on his guard duty and activated someone. If you recall he also pulled off the A&E episode. While i would have kicked his ass big time previously, now i just feel like laughing. hes seriously beyond hope

had a few heart stopping moments this week involving girls , but dun worry haha alls fine in la la land for i have returned to my loveless ways...

highly recommend Ayumi's new album and specifically this track called CAROLS, and if your able to find it the "STF" remix. For lack of a better word, and my deterioating grasp of the english vocabulary, i'm reduced to using the cliche "Better than Sex".

also read "The life of Pi" by yann martel. A good read by any standards with 100% less homoerotica than his other novel titled "Self", which was very good too but way too confusing with its numerous gender changes. Life of Pi on the other hand, is pretty straightforward and linear, with the sole purpose of telling one thing, a story. Or The Story. And what a story it is! Although the sleeve said that this Story will make you believe in GOD, it was always going to be a far-fetched premise. But with each book i read, i take home something with me. And what did i take back this time with me? The point that that reality is indeed what we make of it. So in the end which story did i choose? Neither is true, both are fiticious, but one is the better Story. Indeed this Story is really a well deserved tribute to our imagination...

short summary of what happened the entire week...

sunday : dragged kit ling down to tm to buy contacts. turns out that we both have astigmatism so the lenses cost like 20% more. And u have to preorder them before u can collect them 3 weeks later. Quite obviously we dun have time for that so we picked up-ed a non-astig monthly pair for 30 bucks and prayed to god that our eyes dun pop from all the psychedelic double vision craziness...

the optician was very nice in that omg i'm-20-shes-30 sorta way. She stayed with us for 3 hours, first by testing our eyes, then setting up a device that allowed us to see how bad the astig would be b4 hand, then recommending to us the non-astig monthly pair when all the other spectacle shops were pushing a 6 month supply at us and didn't say anything about non-astig lenses. Oh and she also stayed with us throughout the one hour it took me to put on my contacts. You dun see that kinda service for just 30 bucks everyday so yea i felt kinda pampered =P

Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday: theres a very good reason why they are compressed into one column, bcos all i did drag myself to go to work at 6, did e-learning till 3, cheerleading till 8 and then collapse back to bed at the end of the day. rinse and repeat till u feel like it.

On a good sidenote though, my extension liberty got scrapped, and got instead replaced by another flyer doing a 6-2-1. We also practiced toss pikes, swedish falls, pendulums, and the oh so dreaded basket toss. Which moi will be doing. They are going to bring a camera man down on the day itself to see how it looks like and hopefully we do everything as planned so that i can show u all how it looks like. It looks quite good actually :)

Saturday, April 09, 2005

one new step learned today albeit quite unsuccessfully. Extension liberty. U noe how with each new diffcult step, the previous steps pale in comparison? Like when u are doing 24 km route march u think about how f*8ing easy 8km ? Or like how u thought that bounding from tree to tree was tree was downright easy after doing multiple arti-s consecutively? Well todays lesson brought that point out loud and clear, cos after i cleared it twice, i felt like anything was possible , like doing splits in mid-air. if we can master the liberty pyramid , thats it we confirm will win the com. No arguments about that.

So what the hell is a liberty? well its standing on only one leg, well above head level. You just have to take a look at how many ppl cannot do quad stretches properly before u realise how futile it can look like. Especially after 8-9 tries. Stunt was almost scratched because of that. And i stepped and fell on my bases many times. Even till the end of the lesson i couldn't do the stunt properly, but at least i remained in the air longer. Which unfortunately cannot be said for the past few attempts. The less revealed the better hehe.

But i noticed today that the break neck speed is taking a toll on us. Dance steps were not remembered correctly, even simple stuff like elevators were executed improperly, and tempers flared more than once or twice. My base group is still going strong though...mebbe its bcos of the common bond we share, the love for dirty jokes haha...

Thursday, April 07, 2005

so far in 3 days i've learned elevators, extensions and half a dance routine, which would have otherwise taken any professional cheerleading team at least 5 sessions for each. Ah such are the demands of time. i think we broke several world records along the way(if we didn't break our necks first). elevators bring the guy up to half the body length while extensions bring the guy above the head.

The downside to this is we have barely half the stability that is necessary for any 3 level pyramid stunt, so 'cher' took away the stunt involving me doing a split on the third level. The one with me standing on the third level is still up in the air though....

It all feels way too rushed. I have good and steady bases under me(the ppl who are supporting me and going to toss me in the future) so we advanced quite quickly, i wasn't supposed to be the main flyer at first, but the other groups are a few steps behind. So in the end we became the main group. That means at somepoint in time i'm prob gonna have to do a basketball toss. name speaks for itself.

True Story: There was a girl who fell twice during rehearsals. Now she has occasional memory loss. Shudders.

Still it gives me quite an adrenaline rush when u're high above up there and especially when u do the quaddle (?sp). Thats when u fall from whatever position your in onto the hands of the ppl below. Oh and i also have to do a ultra high risk maneuver that involves me putting my precious balls of steel at risk. which have been squashed twice already, but luckily not too badly. Theres still some fathers day spirit left in this wily old bird.

Oh and my thighs hurt like f**k. I can't rem the last time they hurt so badly, probably after 16 km route march.

In other news, my buddy wants to downgrade because he feels breathlessness after he runs. Like wtf? which CB doesn't feel breathless after running...he also made a medical appointment to see the National Skin Centre for acne, which doesn't look too bad to me( my sec 2 acne was far worse). And today he went to the A and E bcos he had 2 days fever which amazingly didn't go down after taking 2 days of antibiotics. WOW. Hes a nice guy and all but you know its people like this that makes me wonder why i didn't report sick when i had high fever in bmt before 8 km route march, when i had sinus prob during field camp, when i had blisters on both my legs during 16 km. Why i still continued to cheong swa after feeling like shit. When these ppl are just gonna run away from the battlefield. And yes in case your wondering technicians still have to cheong swa. We are soldiers before technicians. Sometimes i really wonder whether the stereotype of JC students being weaklings is really just a stereotype or not. Cos one of my bases is a poly student who after almost spraining his wrist in training, still urged me on to do the stunt one more time when his arms are feeling the strain much more than my thighs are. You know its the little life experiences like these that really influences the way we perceive people and not the things that we are told. For example i would rather much like to go to war with my current batch of mixed OETI ppl rather than my "direct enhanced" company. yes some of them are A.P like the malays, but as one of them told me, yes he got a.p, but he will always be there.

He will always be garang.

if anyone is interested this is what my job as an automotive tech is like

i learn to fix tractors and forklifts (for now). however for the next month or so all i'm gonna do is e-learning on bolts and nuts, how to use a spanner, hand safety and brainless stuff liddat. Since my workplace is OETI, everyday we Only Eat Talk and Idle. we do that until canteen break starts at 9.20 then we come back and do that again until lunch which lasts for an hour, then we come back and do that again until teabreak and book out time.

every tuesday and thursday there is healthy lifestyle, which means stuff like running arnd OETI, or sports or training for cheerleaders. on those days we dun have area cleaning or standby area, but on other days we have to do it even thhough we NEVER touch the workplace.

last thursday and friday was slightly more interesting, we got to play arnd with one of the vehicles.

i tell you its chao slack one, if they act do away with the e-learning and focus on the praticals which are far more useful. all they are doing is delay my pay rise when i get my next rank.
